Sending newsletters? Pretty easy.
Growing your list however… it can be tricky to get people to “Subscribe here!” if you’re not enticing them with something in return.
You see, people aren’t as willing to hand over their email addresses anymore, so you need to sweeten the deal with a give and take. You have something they want or need, and in exchange, they hand over their email address for it.
Enter: The lead magnet. The freebie. Whatever you call it, it has one sole purpose—
To grow your list effortlessly and attract your ideal client in the process.
Here are three ideas to get you started!
JUST FOR FUN: A QUIZ
Okay, that’s a little egregious. Quizzes aren’t just for fun, they can also gather up a ton of data for you, but more on that later.
Since humans LOVE to learn about themselves, quizzes are a fabulous option for growing your email list. There’s truly no shortage of creatives ideas when it comes to creating a quiz for your travel business, but here’s a simple one to get you started:
- Quiz Title: “Find Your Next Itinerary With Our Travel Style Quiz”
- Possible Results: Adventure Seeker, In Need of R&R, Culture Enthusiast, or Luxe Traveler
- Call-To-Action: Once they complete the quiz (and share their email address), follow up with a personalized travel tip or list of destinations that align with their quiz result.
Oh and really quick? Your quiz should be fun for the quiz taker. Please, please don’t make it feel like an intake form. That’s the job of your intake form. So, here’s my ask: keep it light. It doesn’t have to be so serious!
A CHECKLIST PDF
Look, maybe it’s me, but I love a checklist. I can’t keep everything in my brain, so I’m constantly surrounded by checklists.
And when do I use them the most? Before, during, and after traveling.
I have a pre-travel checklist (I swear I’ll never forget to take the trash out before a week-long trip ever again. *Ew.*)
I have a travel checklist depending on where we’re going. You think I’m going to miss an opportunity for handmade coconut ice cream at the end of the beach near the third surf shack? No I am not.
I even have an “after-travel” checklist, peppered with all of the “back to real life” tasks that have to be done upon returning home.
So as you can see, there’s no shortage of various checklists you can create for your specific niche, traveler, destinations, or type of traveler. The more specific, the better — and bonus points if it solves a problem or answers a question. Here’s an idea to start with:
- Title: Pre-Travel Checklist By The Numbers
- Content: Breakdown various tasks that need to be done leading up to a trip by timeline. One example? I always forget to hold our mail delivery until it’s almost too late to do it.
- Add This: Add a small section about when to contact a travel advisor (hint: you!) for expert help.
Once you’ve created your lead magnet, pop that bad boy into a short and sweet delivery email that’s automated in Flodesk, then promote the heck out of your new freebie and watch the subscribers roll in.
HOW WE WORK GUIDE
Want to grow your list with subscribers who are a little more committed, and set the scene for a smooth client onboarding in the process?
A ‘How We Work’ Guide might not be the flashiest lead magnet, but it will attract people who are a little more curious about you and your business.
This guide doesn’t need to be a novel, but linking it on the Services page of your website will at least give folks the opportunity to say “Yeah, I’d like to know more” and hand over their email address to do so.
This guide can also position you as a polished, professional expert (look at you with this whole guide?!) and save you from answering a ton of questions that can be easily passed along inside this short guide.
Here are a few ideas of what to include inside:
- Fees: Set the scene for the type of client who won’t hesitate to pay you what your worth by outlining your professional fees in your How We Work guide.
- Minimum Budget: If you have minimum budgets or any other booking parameters, it’s a good idea to outline and elaborate on those here.
- Services: You’ll want to outline your services on your actual Services page, of course, but having the guide allows you to go into even more detail.

Make sure you set up a nurture sequence so that as your new, engaged, warm leads request this guide, they’ll be met with a handful of engaging, educational (and automated!) emails right from the get-go.
STRESSED ABOUT ALL OF THIS?
👋 Hey, quick note: Sometimes I include affiliate links in my blogs – ya know, because paying my bills is cool and I also have a gardening problem. But also because I wholeheartedly love the platforms and resources I use in my business and I want you to use them too. So here’s a legal head’s up that you may occasionally click through on a link I’ve shared and that means I make a few bucks on affiliate commission. Thank you for supporting Moxie and Fourth – and my startling flower seed collection.
